Bringing the Story of Indonesian Coffee to the Global Stage

Indonesian coffee carries stories shaped by rich natural landscapes, diverse production processes, and cultural heritage across the archipelago. As global interest in specialty coffee continues to grow, these stories need to be supported by a strong and connected ecosystem that strengthens every stage of the coffee value chain.

World of Coffee Bangkok 2026, held on May 7-9, 2026 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Thailand became a meeting point for coffee industry players from around the world, including buyers, roasters, traders, producers, and coffee communities to connect, exchange insights, and discuss the future of the global coffee industry.

At the event, KAPPI participated as part of the Indonesian Coffee Pavilion, showcasing the diversity of Indonesian coffee and the people behind it. The pavilion highlighted coffee-producing regions across Indonesia while creating opportunities for dialogue and cross-border collaboration within the international coffee community.

As a foundation focused on coffee development and education, KAPPI contributed to the Indonesian Coffee Pavilion by sharing perspectives on education, capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration. KAPPI also shared insights into the characteristics of Indonesian coffee, the potential of coffee-producing regions, and the importance of ecosystem readiness in strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market.

Addressing Opportunities and Challenges in Indonesian Coffee

Through discussions and interactions during the exhibition, KAPPI highlighted that the challenges facing Indonesian coffee extend beyond market access. Consistency in quality, capacity building for industry players, and readiness to meet international standards remain important factors in strengthening the position of Indonesia coffee globally.

For KAPPI, strengthening Indonesian coffee should be viewed as a shared effort that connects upstream production, downstream industries, and market access. Building a sustainable coffee ecosystem requires collaboration across the value chain, supported by education, quality improvement, and long-term capacity development.

Reviving the Glory of Indonesian Coffee

KAPPI also had the opportunity to speak at the Indonesian Coffee Pavilion through a presentation delivered by Moelyono Soesilo in a session titled “Reviving the Glory of Indonesian Coffee”. The presentation explored the dynamics of Indonesia’s coffee supply and demand, market opportunities, national industry potential, and the collective challenges that need to be addressed together. Through this discussion, KAPPI encouraged stakeholders to see Indonesian coffee not only as a commodity, but as an ecosystem that grows through collaboration, shared knowledge, and long-term commitment from all parts of the industry.

Through its participation at World of Coffee Bangkok 2026, KAPPI hopes to continue contributing to the development of the Indonesian coffee ecosystem through education, capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration. With a stronger and more connected ecosystem, Indonesian coffee is expected to continue growing and strengthening its presence in the global market.
