Bringing the Character and Story of Indonesian Coffee to the Global Stage

Amid the growing global demand for single-origin coffee, KAPPI took part in SIAL Shanghai 2026 to present Indonesian coffee in a more complete way—covering its flavor profiles and post-harvest processes, the stories and value chains behind each coffee-producing region. The exhibition was held from May 18-20, 2026, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), China.

During the event, KAPPI joined the Indonesia Pavilion at Hall E3 Booth F005 (E3F005), together with Bank Indonesia and various Indonesian business actors. This participation formed part of a broader effort to introduce Indonesia’s rich product offerings, including coffee, to the international food and beverage industry.

Behind Every Origin Lies a Story of Indonesia

KAPPI showcased a variety of Indonesian single-origin coffees in green bean, roasted bean, and ground coffee forms. Among the featured coffees were Arabica Full-Wash Sombra Coffee, Arabica Semi-Wash Qahwa Coffee, and Robusta Natural Batulawang Coffee. Each coffee was presented to highlight the diversity of flavor profiles, post-harvest processes, and the distinctive characteristics of coffee-producing regions across Indonesia.

Through the Nusantara coffee cupping session, visitors were invited to experience the taste, aroma, and stories behind each Indonesian single origin. This experience served to introduce Indonesian coffee not merely as a beverage, but as a reflection of culture, landscapes, and the long journey of the people behind it.

More Than What's in the Cup

For KAPPI, the strength of Indonesian coffee goes beyond its flavor. Its value is also shaped by farmers' capabilities, post-harvest quality, regional identity, and how the coffee is positioned in international markets. Therefore, strengthening the entire value chain—from upstream to downstream—remains essential in building the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee globally.

“Each coffee-producing region in Indonesia carries its own distinct character and story. Through SIAL Shanghai 2026, we aimed to show that Indonesian coffee is not merely a commodity, but also a reflection of cultural identity and the long journey of the people behind it,” said Roby Wibisono, a representative of KAPPI.

This perspective aligns with KAPPI’s focus on promoting education, capacity building, and strengthening the identity of Indonesian coffee so it can stand as a high-value product with a clearer and stronger character in the international market.

From Dialogue to the Future of Indonesian Coffee

During the exhibition, KAPPI also had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the Vice Minister of Trade of The Republic of Indonesia, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, B.A., M.Sc., and the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to China and Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun. The discussion provided a platform for KAPPI to share its perspective on the importance of strengthening Indonesian coffee, both in terms of quality, regional identity, and its connection to global markets.

As the journey continues, KAPPI hopes Indonesian coffee will gain increasing global recognition, not only for its taste, but also for the stories, culture, and values behind every cup. Through education, collaboration, and capacity building, KAPPI remains committed to strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesian coffee.
