KAPPI and the Ministry of Agriculture Explore Opportunities to Strengthen the Upstream Coffee Sector in West Lampung

KAPPI accompanied the Ministry of Agriculture on a field visit to coffee farms in Sekincau Village, West Lampung. The visit marked an initial step in showcasing KAPPI’s farmer support approach while exploring opportunities for collaboration to advance Indonesia’s coffee sector.

A Closer Look at Coffee Farm Conditions and Cultivation Practices

West Lampung - On 31 July 2026, KAPPI accompanied a field visit by the Directorate of Seasonal and Annual Crops, Ministry of Agriculture, to three coffee farms in Sekincau Village, West Lampung, located within the same area. The visit aimed to observe firsthand the conditions faced by coffee farmers, gain a deeper understanding of their cultivation practices, and learn more about ongoing coffee development efforts alongside local farmers. 

During the field visit, participants observed farm conditions and coffee cultivation practices while engaging in direct discussions with local farmers. These conversations provided an opportunity to better understand the experiences, challenges, and opportunities surrounding upstream coffee development.  

Supporting Farmers to Strengthen the Upstream Coffee Sector

As an organization focused on coffee development and education, particularly at the upstream level, KAPPI supports farmers’ capacity development through continuous assistance, strengthened cultivation knowledge, and the promotion of agricultural practices that contribute to coffee productivity and sustainability. 

One of KAPPI’s key areas of support is encouraging increased farmer productivity through improved cultivation practices at the farm level. During the visit, several farmers demonstrated productivity levels that had reached the minimum target of 2 tons per hectare, with some achieving even higher yields of 3-4 tons per hectare. 

Strengthening Collaboration for Indonesia’s Coffee Development

The field visit marked an initial step in introducing KAPPI’s farmer support approach while creating opportunities for dialogue with various stakeholders involved in Indonesia’s coffee sector development. 

Through its upstream approach, KAPPI continues to support the development of a stronger coffee ecosystem by placing farmers as an essential part of Indonesia’s coffee value chain. Moving forward, collaboration among stakeholders is expected to further strengthen efforts toward sustainable coffee development.
