Connecting Farmer Empowerment with Market Opportunities
The Coffee Development & Education Foundation (KAPPI), in collaboration with its strategic partner PT Sumber Kurnia Alam (SKA), participated in Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026, held from October 14 to 18, 2026, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City in Tangerang, Indonesia. Through their joint booth, KAPPI highlighted its efforts to empower farmers and strengthen coffee communities at the farm level, while SKA contributed to coffee quality development and helped connect Indonesian coffee with broader market opportunities.
Building a Coffee Ecosystem from Farm to Market
Developing Indonesia’s coffee industry requires more than a focus on the final product, it also involves strengthening farmers’ capacity to manage their farms and improve the quality of their harvests. Through training and mentoring, KAPPI helps farmers deepen their knowledge of cultivation practices, including fertilization, pruning, harvesting techniques, and land management. These efforts are complemented by initiatives in women’s empowerment, research and innovation, and Indonesian coffee diplomacy.
At TEI 2026, KAPPI and SKA also showcased a variety of Indonesian coffees, including beans from farmers supported by Bank Indonesia (BI) that had undergone a curation process. The display offered visitors an opportunity to explore the distinctive characteristics and potential of Indonesian coffee while creating opportunities to connect with prospective buyers and industry stakeholders. This collaboration bridges farmer capacity-building efforts with coffee quality development and broader market access.
“For KAPPI, coffee bean quality starts in the field and with farmers’ knowledge. That is why we emphasize education and mentoring to help farmers consistently produce high-quality coffee. Our collaboration with SKA helps bridge these efforts at the farm level with quality standards and market opportunities,” said Roby Wibisono, a representative of (KAPPI).
Expanding Partnerships for the Future of Indonesian Coffee
For KAPPI, TEI 2026 provided an opportunity to expand its network and establish partnerships with a range of stakeholders. By bringing together farmer empowerment, quality improvement, and market access, these collaborative efforts aim to strengthen Indonesia’s coffee value chain and support the industry’s long-term sustainability.
“Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) is a leading export exhibition organized by the Ministry of Trade, bringing international buyers and businesspeople to Indonesia. The participation of KAPPI and SKA reflects our mission to introduce Indonesian coffee to buyers from around the world while showcasing the potential of Indonesian coffee developed through KAPPI’s programs,” said Moelyono Soesilo, President Director of PT Sumber Kurnia Alam (SKA).
